We’re Funded!

Image Space Media logoIt is with great pride that we announce our Series A. Our growth has been so astonishing thanks to all of our great publishers. It's time to really blow it up! Thanks for your help so far and we're looking forward to working with you all for a long time.

The round was led by New Atlantic Ventures. Mike Gordon, co-founder of Limelight Networks, also participated and will be joining the board. Full release is below.

Image Space Media Receives $2.9 Million In First Round Financing from Leading Media Industry Investors
Funds Will Support Publisher Network Growth and Development of Leading Edge Technology

New York, NY, January 19, 2010—Image Space Media (www.imagespacemedia.com), the leading provider of in-image advertising for the Internet, has received $2.9 million in first-round financing led by New Atlantic Ventures (NAV). Michael Gordon, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Limelight Networks, Inc. (LLNW), will also join the Board of Directors.

“Publishers are constantly seeking effective methods for monetizing their site content. Image Space Media’s ad overlay platform provides a source for incremental revenue that doesn’t compete with other revenue sources,” said Jesse Chenard, CEO, who most recently co-founded leading online video advertising network, Tremor Media. “Given the huge numbers of images across the Internet, the potential for scale is just incredible.”

With more than 34 million unique visitors each month, Image Space Media places relevant ads on the lower fourth of 7.5 million images across the Internet and serves hundreds of millions of impressions per month.

"Site visitors consistently engage with site images and rarely view banners anymore. Image Space Media has identified a solution to banner blindness and is getting great performance from their ads,” said Scott Johnson, Managing Partner at NAV. "Publishers need incremental revenue now more than ever so we are extremely bullish on the Company’s prospects."

Publishers gain incremental revenue through relevant, precisely targeted ads. The transparent ads are user-controlled and only appear when the site visitor mouses over an image. "Image Space Media’s advanced platform is delivering outstanding results for an expanding group of publishers and advertisers and is poised for even more significant growth,” said Gordon. “Website images represent a significant untapped revenue opportunity for publishers and a new, high-engagement opportunity for advertisers."

Monetizing Your Tweets

In light of the Federal Trade Commission's new guidelines regarding social media marketing, here is a comprehensive list of three organizations that are helping users monetize their Twitter pages while staying ethical:

1. Twittad is a "social media affinity network" for Twitter advertising. It offers Twitter social media ads, endorsements, sponsorships, twitter ads, ethics, disclosureusers anywhere from $2 to $2,000 to post paid endorsements to their accounts. Twittad requires users to disclose the ads by posting a Twittad badge to their profile and including a link to 'spon.in' in their post to indicate that there is a 'sponsorship in update.'

2. Ad.ly automatically sends one tweet to your feed every other day for a week. (Users must explicitly approve these tweets first.) At the end of each Ad.ly tweet, (Ad by http://Ad.ly) appears to let readers know that it is an advertisement. Ad.ly's impressive list of registered publishers includes celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Greg Grunberg, and Nicole Richie.

3. IZEA's SponsoredTweets is another platform that is connecting advertisers with Tweeters. Users set the price they want companies to pay them and then wait for ad offers. SponsoredTweets promises 100% disclosure and belives in "safe, ethical sponsored tweets" through their disclosure engine (below).

All of these ad services are meeting the basic requirements of the FTC's new guidelines. However, their standards of disclosure vary, which may end up confusing the average Twitter user. We wonder whether 140 characters is enough room to accurately notify readers of the message's paid sponsorship. And will filling your Twitter feed with ads turn off followers? What do you think?

Blogging for Bucks

In difficult economic times, blogging is a great way to earn some extra cash. Image Space Media would like to share a few tips and tricks for beginning bloggers, or anyone looking to earn additional revenue from their presence on the Web.

The most common strategy to generate income on a blog is selling advertisements. Google AdSense (www.google.com/adsense) is probably the easiest and most popular tool for selling ads. This free ad service allows bloggers to select several ads that match their blogs’ content and then pays them according to how many readers click on the ads. BlogAds, a service that connects bloggers with potential advertisers, is also a useful tool for selling advertising.

Another easy way to monetize your blog is to help companies sell their products through “affiliate” programs. These programs place an ad from an online company like Amazon.com or eBay on your site. Bloggers earn money every time readers click the ad, go to the company’s website, and make a purchase. The revenue generated from affiliate programs is called a referral fee and can earn as much as 10% commission per sale. Two popular affiliate programs are LinkShare (www.linkshare.com) and Commission Junction (www.cj.com).

Bloggers can also ask for contributions. Some readers are willing to show monetary appreciation for their favorite blogs; others may support a particular cause or issue the blogger frequently discusses and want to donate. Online payment services such as PayPal (www.paypal.com), Amazon's Honor System (www.amazon.com/honorsystem), and BitPass (www.bitpass.com) can add a contribution collection button to your blog and e-mail you when visitors donate.

One great feature of Image Space Media (www.imagespacemedia.com) is that it works alongside all of these strategies and can generate incremental revenue for your blog. Our in-picture advertising technology is completely compatible with Google AdSense and allows your visitors to view clean, relevant ads in an unobtrusive way. (To see a demo, click here: http://www.picadtesting.com.) Bloggers can view the number of impressions, clicks, and earnings on their domains and are paid on a pay-per-click model. The technology is incredibly flexible and lets bloggers manage their visitors’ experience on their site. Get started with Image Space Media today: http://www.imagespacemedia.com/publishers/register!
